Abstract
COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) infection is currently pandemic still a big global health problem by a highly contagious RNA virus SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). COVID-19 causes various physical impairments as well as respiratory symptoms.
It can affect almost every organ of the body, and are reporting various manifestations of the infection in the eye. SARS-CoV-2 is mainly transmitted from person-to-person respiratory droplets or from person to person via aerosol. They enter the body and bind to cells using spike glycoproteins that protrude through the surface lipid envelope. SARS-CoV-2 binds to the cell surface protein ACE2 (angiotensin-converting enzyme 2) and, causing the virus to infect cells and cause eye damage. Conjunctivitis is the most common symptom, and the eye symptoms were very diverse dry eye, foreign body sensation, itching, blurred vision, and retinal hemorrhage and such. Although the eye itself is likely not the route of transmission, care should be taken to protect the eyes and hand hygiene to minimize the risk of transmission. If you have COVID-19, we suggest that you stop using contact lenses.
In addition it is necessary to pay attention to the hygiene of contact lenses through correct wearing, care, cleaning, and replacement of lenses and lens cases, and disposable contact lenses are recommended.
